Law Enforcement Training on disabilities
Learn best practices and helpful resources to get you started on appropriately interacting with people who have disabilities! Also learn about Kirk.
I am Kirk and I welcome you to my website. My main mission in creating this website is to provide criminal justice professionals with further training about persons with disabilities who are involved with the criminal justice system via posting my 2006 Master’s thesis capstone. My web page titled, Chapter 1, discusses why I wrote my Master’s thesis as a training guide for criminal justice professionals, and it lists all of the main topics that I cover in the remaining chapters of my thesis. I of course highly recommend that criminal justice professionals read all five chapters of my thesis! However, if some criminal justice professionals have time to read only a couple of the chapters, I feel that chapter 1 and 4 are the most important to read. Also I have posted some lectures that I have written regarding disability issues and the criminal justice system. If you are a citizen and not interested in the more technical aspects of legal issues regarding persons with disabilities and you just want to know more about how to appropriately interact with people who have disabilities in general, I recommend that you read my web page titled, Kirk’s Community Speech. In the speech, I discuss the following: my philosophy of how people with disabilities should be treated, tips when you encounter someone with a disability, a description of how cerebral palsy affects me, and a description of what I currently do for a living. Also in the speech, I highly recommend that people ask me any questions that they have after hearing / reading the speech. Thus anyone who browses this website is welcome to contact me with any questions! I have presented various forms of the speech to several community institutions such as high schools and college universities upon their individual requests. Now, if you are an employer and interested in my professional experiences and qualifications, please especially review my web page titled, About Me. In the page I include the following: my autobiography, my resume general cover letter, and my formal resume. Furthermore, I thank you for taking time to visit my place on the web
